Searching Active Directory using wild cards

I do not often dabble in Active Directory, but today I learned something useful. Namely how to search for AD-groups and users using wildcard. A bit basic, indeed, but you learn something new every day. =)

Simply go to search > Advanced > Field > Group > Name and “is (exactly)” and then use * for wild card.

In the example below I have search for groups using the string *omain*. As you can see from the result, all groups listed contain “domain”.

  1. Thank you very much for posting this helpful tip and example picture on how to use the Advanced tab in the Find command and use a wildcard with the counterintuitive “Is (exactly)” condition.
